Conor Oberst - 2, Ryan Adams - 3

Two days ago, Ryan Adams announced his plans of releasing THREE albums this year. Yes, you heard right, THREE. The first album to be released, Cold Roses, is a double album produced by Thomas Schick. It will also be recorded with The Cardinals. No other details are known about it, but if you go to the official site, you will be able to hear (what I am guessing is) a track from Cold Roses (the title of which is "Magnolia Mountain").

The second album, Jacksonville, will be a solo effort. It too will be produced by Thomas Schick. Again, no details are known of this release. The other album being dropped, 29, will also be a solo album. More importantly, it will be produced by Ethan Johns, of Heartbreaker fame. Yes, you are cordially invited.

Coldplay....Leaked?

Both The Sun and Contactmusic reported that the new Coldplay album had leaked on the 26th. Chris Martin and co. sent out their troops of laywers in order to settle the problem. In the end, the tracks that were up for download were just a bunch of static, so Martin had nothing to worry about. Had the tracks been leaked, apparently Martin would have been, "furious." As much as I love getting my hands on a leaked album, I am halfway hoping that this album is able to evade leakage until it's released this spring.

Iron and Wine/Calexico Record, Tour

Sam Beam of Iron and Wine & Tuscon's Calexico are recording an EP together, entitled, "Lays in the Reigns." They will be re-recording old Iron and Wine songs, such as He Lays in the Reigns, and Red Dust, and perhaps some new songs; details are still coming in. Calexico and Iron and Wine will be on tour together this coming Autumn, so make sure not to miss what will surely be a great show.

Fresh Music

If you just don't have the money lying around to buy an iPod, or any other mp3 player, you can simply make you own. With Minty mp3, you can fashion your very own mp3 player from a normal Altoids can, some electronics, and some major soldering. If I ever saw someone carrying one of those around, I know the hipster-doofus in me would secretly want one.

Brazilica

The new Beck album has leaked. My initial reaction from hearing it was that he has returned to his "old" style, a la Odelay, Mutations, and Midnite Vultures. One song title, Brazilica, obviously shows its influences. I can't say that I don't like it, I actually love it -- I was expecting something completely new, that his audience would never expect from him. After thinking about it, Beck must think there is a need to re-tread old ground, and if Beck felt it was necessary to try these sounds he's already used again, I will trust him. My other favorites include, "Go It Alone," "E-Pro," and "Earthquake Weather."

There's Too Much Love

Belle and Sebastian were voted 'Best Scottish Band of All Time' recently in a three-month long poll. I suppose I was satisfied with the results, but would much rather see the Jesus and Mary Chain and Teenage Fan Club over Idlewild any day. It's not the best list, but it's alright. (Link via Largehearted Boy)

'BEST SCOTTISH BANDS'
1 Belle & Sebastian
2 Travis
3 Idlewild
4 Wet Wet Wet
5 Sensational Alex Harvey Band
6 Simple Minds
7 Teenage Fan Club
8 Bay City Rollers
9 Primal Scream
10 The Proclaimers

Station Approach

The new Elbow album is already slated for release in May of 2005. After what seemed like no time when Cast of Thousands came out after Asleep in the Back, this untitled album comes along. I am very pleased with the pacing Elbow has with their albums -- right when you aren't expecting it, they have another new project ready for the public. Although Cast of Thousands was great, it really was a tough listen. I wasn't really aware of this, but apparently the recording of Cast of Thousands was a very trying experience. According to the band, these sessions have gone much smoother. Hopefully the songs they have recorded for this album haven't lost any of Elbow's signature grit.

Film Appreciation Society: LOTR

The meetings for the viewings of the extended editions of The Lord of the Rings are the 20, 27 of January and 3 of February at 5:00 PM. Bring your own food and whatnot, because we probably won't be leaving until 9:00 PM (considering there are no interruptions). Also, it will be in the Multimedia Room, not Room 803. Hope to see you all there.

Note: There will be NO MEETING this Thursday (January 13), due to the fact that we couldn't book the MMR. Sorry for this inconvenience.

New Weezer Single

The new Weezer single, "Beverly Hills," will be released around March 21. Word on the street is that radio stations have already received a copy of the single, and it should be getting airplay even sooner than that. The official site has nothing listed about this, but FMQB has word of it.

Finally, New Oasis

Noel Gallagher of Oasis has confirmed May 16 as the release date of their upcoming untitled album. I'm not especially surprised that Noel is hyping it up to be their best shite ever -- he has pretty much done that with each past album. Apparently, none of the songs sound like "Oasis," except for the couple of songs written by their current bassist, Andy Bell. The songs written by Liam are also reported to be, "very, very good." Considering "Songbird," we'll just have to wait and see about that. I just want a kickass Oasis album that I can rock out to.
