Fiery Furnaces to play with Franz Ferdinand?

Although this is only speculation, there is a possibility that Franz Ferdinand may play with the Fiery Furnaces on stage. At Franz Ferdinand's November 28 show at the Nagoya Diamond Hall in Japan, Bob Hardy, the bassist from Franz Ferdinand, was not able to play due to stomach problems. So, the bassist from the opening band, The Beat Up, joined Alex Kapranos and company for a few songs, before the entire opening band joined Franz Ferdinand on stage for a few songs. Bob Hardy is expected to miss the first two dates on Franz Ferdinand's stateside tour, where the Fiery Furnaces are playing with them. He has already been replaced by Toshi Yano, the bassist from the Fiery Furnaces, so logic would lead one to expect the rest of the Fiery Furnaces to join Franz Ferdinand on stage, if only for a small portion of the show. The possibilities are literally endless...

You know Hollywood sucks when...

...they announce that the sequel to Robin Williams' Mrs. Doubtfire is in the works. The first installment was atrocious enough -- how could they manage to make this one even half-way decent? Then again, if the first one made $219 Million, I suppose the sequel won't do that bad.

Coldplay and Doves In March

Both Coldplay and Doves are planning to release their forthcoming albums in America in March of '05. The untitled Coldplay effort was produced by Ken Nelson, the guy behind Parachutes and A Rush Of Blood To The Head. Unfortunately, Coldplay won't be touring until March, so don't expect to see any new songs until then.

Spaghetti Westerns Get Special Treatment

Sergio Leone's Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and Duck You Sucker will be released on Special Edition DVD to accompany the already-released Once Upon a Time In the West and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Look for them sometime in 2005.

Could Well Be In Video

The Streets' new video for Could Well Be In was recently released. It's a pretty boring video, but nice enough (considering the content of the song itself). One thing I don't like is the creepy guy with the long hair (who I think is playing the piano -- correct me if I'm wrong). Don't expect another Blinded By The Lights.

Jenny Lewis Goes Solo

Jenny Lewis of Rilo Kiley will be releasing a solo album, which is still untitled. Lewis says that the album took six days to record, and is, "a kind of soul record." The album is being released by Bright Eyes frontman Conor Oberst's label, Team Love. Expect it in stores in the summer of 2005.

In Rilo Kiley news, Rilo Kiley is planning on touring with Bright Eyes in Europe and Japan in February, and is playing at Coachella and Bonnaroo in the summer of 2005. If other bands like Rilo Kiley are going to be showing up at Bonnaroo, I think I'll have to force myself to congregate with all of those filthy, repulsive hippies to see all of those great shows.

Bright Eyes Leak

Sometime in the past week or so, the new Bright Eyes Albums, I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning and Digital Ash In a Digital Urn, were leaked over the internet. I personally prefer Digital Ash In a Digital Urn, as of now. Look on your favorite file-sharing network.

Franz out of Harry Potter, Johnny In

Last month, I told you that Franz Ferdinand was going to be featured in the next Harry Potter film in a cameo-type role. Well, it seems as if Franz Ferdinand had a "falling out" with the director (Mike Newell), and now Johnny Greenwood will be staring in the role alongside Pulp's Jarvis Cocker. Expect this film sometime in 2005.

Stubbs The Zombie Soundtrack

For videogamers who weep for the lack of decent soundtracks for games, fear not -- Stubbs The Zombie has put an end to your wait. Stubbs The Zombie is a game set in the 50's, so they are covers plenty from that era. Artists featured on the soundtrack include:

Ben Kweller "Lollipop"
The Raveonettes "My Boyfriend's Back"
Death Cab For Cutie "Earth Angel"
Rogue Wave "Everyday"
Cake "Strangers In The Night"
The Walkmen "There Goes My Baby"
The Dandy Warhols "All I Have To Do Is Dream"
Oranger "Mr. Sandman"
The Flaming Lips "If I Only Had A Brian"
Clem Snide "Tears On My Pillow"
Rose Hill Drive "Shakin' All Over"
Milton Mapes "Lonesome Town"
Phantom Planet "The Living Dead"

I can already tell that the Flaming Lips cover from the 1939 classic, The Wizard of Oz, will likely be my favorite of the album. This soundtrack will hit stores March 15, 2005.

Murs Videos

Head here if you would like to view Murs' video for 'Bad Man,' and here if you want to see 'Risky Business.*'

*Althought I don't enjoy 'Risky Business' as much as 'Bad Man,' it does feature Digital Underground's Humpty (!), which makes it that much better.

Oasis Back Catalogue

Oasis are releasing their entire back catalogue on their official website, iTunes, Napster, and many other legal file-sharing services. They are planning on releasing an album every week, leading up to Christmas; however, if you absolutely need every single album, you can download it from their official website, as they are releasing all of them simultaneously today on their own online store. For the completist in you, they are also releasing rare interviews, outtakes, and B-sides.

Halo 2 Rakes In $125 Million

Microsoft made over $125 Million on the launch day of it's most anticipated title, Halo 2. It still hasn't topped the best-ever list, which has Super Mario 64 as $306 Million. If it continues at this rate, it should easily surpass Super Mario 64, which has been out since September of '96. The Birmingham News reported that pre-order sales were over 1.5 units by itself, which is roughly a cool $75 million by itself. Honestly, is anyone surprised by these numbers? I know I'm not -- all of my friends, whether they own an X-Box or not, have been anticipating this game for many months now.

Cream Reunion Tour

Rock-legends Cream are planning to reunite for a string of shows in the U.K. sometime in 2005. To see Eric Clapton in any form is a privilege -- seeing him perform in Cream, considering their last show together was in 1993 (at their induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame), is a reward.

Explosions In The Sky Soundtrack

If you remember correctly, you'll know that Explosions In The Sky wrote the soundtrack to the recent film Friday Night Lights. You can buy it and sample all of the songs here, and download a song here.
